My husband is the early riser. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m the one who sleeps in, I’m the one who snoozes.
It’s me. I love sleep.

Almost every single day, without fail, he wakes up before Josiah and I do, gets ready, drinks a cup of Pete’s Coffee in the same red, ceramic tumbler, then sits at his desk to read his Bible and pray.

If you know us personally or have seen as we’ve shared online, Calvin, myself, and his family has been walking through a very difficult time right now.

Life suddenly changed, so unexpectedly, so tragically.

We are grieving the loss of an incredible brother, who was also a son, a husband, and a father.

Even in the midst of hardship, I have seen my husband open his Bible and read it, worship God, and pray. His faith has not wavered and his daily practice has not suffered. Within the last couple of weeks, I have witness this man still be in the word of God every day.

Don’t misunderstand me, this has been the hardest season of his life. I’ve had a front row seat to that too. But nonetheless, his Bible has remained opened and he has expressed to me constantly how He continues feeling God’s presence through this brokenness.

I wish I could say the same was for me, but it wasn’t. And it’s okay. It’s okay to have doubts, to wrestle, and most importantly, to be open and honest about said doubts and wrestling.

God can take it.

All our questions, all our wonderings, all our cries, all our doubts, all our emotions. (Read the Psalms if you need assurance that this life is full of ups and downs which often times our emotions mirror.)

It was not until about 2 and a half weeks after we first got the news that I finally opened my She Reads Truth Bible again and read it.  I landed in Psalms and was immediately refreshed by God’s living Word as I was reminded of His promises, even in our greatest pain. Afterwards I literally hugged and squeezed my Bible between my hands ever so tightly, wondering why (and how) on earth I even considered going another day without it.

Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.
— Psalm 119:105

Life is hard, it’s ever changing. But God has given us everything we need IN HIM to walk through this life with hope and faith.

God has given us the Holy Spirit to comfort us and be our peace, His Word to remind us of His faithfulness and goodness throughout generations and His promises true to us even today.

And these words which will never pass away, HIS WORDS, are what I must place all my hope and trust in.

When life suddenly changes, what do you rest assured in?
When you find yourself in the darkest of night, what lights your path?

When you’re pressed and crushed on every side, what do you cling to?
When all seems chaotic and a thousand voices fill your head, whose voice will you chose to trust and believe?

In the midst of hardship, a great loss, or great pain, the temptation to isolate one self, close our Bibles, and sink into despair is real. But I want to challenge you to open up your Bible, read it, hold tightly to God’s promises and to His eternal truths that will never fail.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
— Matthew 24:35

Just days before Calvin’s brother’s passing, we received the He Reads Truth Bible in the mail from FrontGate Media. I had not yet opened it as it was intended to be part of Calvin’s Valentines Day gift.

After the funeral and once we got back home, I waited another day or two before showing Calvin his new Bible. As he flipped the pages, I couldn’t help but lean over him in anticipation to see what additional beautifully and creatively designed study material was included. My She Reads Truth Bible has been a great study Bible for me as it is filled with maps, outlines, Bible reading plans, devotionals, book backgrounds, cross-reference texts and more! The He Reads Truth Bible mimics the SRT Bible in this as well.

I asked Calvin what he thought as a Bible student and preacher, and as he continued flipping pages he said, “this is awesome”!
