Hi there…


There's no easy way to share the heart-shattering news that six weeks ago, we lost our third child that we were expecting. If you follow along on social media, you might have already read this post where I shared that we found out we were pregnant again with baby #3 in February of this year.

The post went on to share that at our 20-week anatomy scan on June 13, I heard the words no expecting mother wants to hear:

"There's no heartbeat today."

I was induced that same night and labored throughout the night. On Wednesday, June 14, I delivered our stillborn baby.

A baby girl.
Nuestra hijita.
Our first daughter.

We named her Naomi Hope Williams.

I have no exciting updates, no included freebies, and honestly, no devotional-type thoughts to include at the end of this newsletter. This one is purely for the sake of informing and asking for your prayers. I often write to encourage others, but this time, I find myself as one in dire need of it. I wrote a blog post to honor her memory and share our stillbirth story.

Please don't read it if it will trigger you as someone who has also experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth, or the loss of a child. However, if you think it will help you feel less alone, please proceed to read. That's why I wrote it. God knows I've never felt more alone, myself. I love you all; thank you for reading.

the gift of a trip

two-week europe getaway

Our trip to Italy was long planned before we lost Naomi. Calvin had his annual school conference in Bristol in June, and the plan was for me to meet him in Italy after. Through the generous offers of family caring for the boys, friends caring for our home and dog, and employers giving us time off, we were able to make it a two-week trip for both of us. So, in the midst of heartache, we ran away together.

I know not everyone will understand the decision, and it was hard to be away from our boys for that time; however, being alone together created space for us to process and grieve. It was a gift, and I am grateful. God met me in so many places all throughout the trip. And I saw beauty and experienced moments that reminded me of our sweet Naomi Hope. πŸ’

final thoughts

I got nothing to share here, but it may be because I'm meant to share Calvin's words instead this time. Calvin preached at our church this past Sunday about counting the cost of being a disciple of Jesus. Have you counted the cost of truly surrendering your life to God?

It encouraged me in my pain, knowing He's at work, even when I don't understand - even when it hurts. He's at work. As Calvin says in his sermon, β€œwe are the marble, and God is the grand sculpture.”

God knows why, though I do not. God knows the ultimate plan, though all I currently see are broken pieces. So I will continue to surrender and utter in prayer with my breaking voice,

"God, have your way...
not my will, but yours."
